i was telling my sister how i wish my grade school education had taught us more about african history (and asian and south american etc) bc we only learned canadian & european history for 95% of school and she was like “oh but we did! we learned about how europe divided up africa in the 1800s” and i was like…..one class where they talk about colonization and the berlin conference but not actually mentioning any other african history or learning about politics in africa (in the past and present) is….not actually learning much about africa….like i remember when we talked about the berlin conference in school (& in the textbooks) and it was only about the european struggle for power/land not actually about africa
anyways canadian schools should teach about more of the world than just europe and canada like ya there’s important stuff to learn there but my k-12 education i literally only have like 2 years where places outside canada/US/europe were talked about for more than like 15 minutes

Italian authorities are to carry out a census of Roma people with a view to deporting those without papers, according to new Interior Minister Matteo Salvini.
Salvini, head of the anti-immigration League party that is the junior party in Italy’s governing coalition, plans to order “a survey of Roma in Italy to find out who, how, how many”, he told a northern Italian TV station on Monday, saying the information would be collected in a “register”.
“Irregular [undocumented] foreigners will be deported via agreements with other countries, but Italian Roma unfortunately you have to keep at home,” he was quoted as saying.
Salvini has a long history of targeting Italy’s Roma and Sinti population, which numbers an estimated 130,000-170,000, around half of whom are believed to be Italian citizens.

This is not limited to Ontario, British Columbia has similar laws that reduce benefits to disabled persons based on marriage or common-law partnership.
Essentially your options are: Never get married or have your necessary benefits slashed. It is beyond cruel and those to campaign for marriage equality should do so with this in mind.
